The study on the anaerobic treatment of the municipal waste discusses an integral approach to the solution of environmental pollution problems by waste disposal, meeting at the same time the increasing demand of energy and raw material of a growing population. Organic left-overs will not be looked upon as waste, but as a valuable raw material for the production of energy and organic fertilizers. The study will elucidate, whether this approach can be technically and economically sound under the specific conditions in the Jakarta area, giving – as a result – the design, operational and economic data of a biogas system which is well adapted to the local conditions. This study aims to survey the potential costs and risks of anaerobic waste processing. A detailed technical and economic evaluation of different alternatives will provide an aid to decision-making to the authorities involved. The study will comprise in detail: - The determination of the potential for the production of biogas from the biowaste of Jakarta in terms of quality and quantity - A presentation of several technologies for gas utilisation, treatment of the fermented residues and the resulting production of by-products - An economic evaluation of the different alternatives. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction 2. Processing of Municipal Waste 3. The Current Waste Management 4. Principle of the Proposed Technology 5. Comparison of Process Alternatives 6. Economic Evaluation 7. Summary
