DENPASAR: Garbage in Bali's capital city decreased by 30 percent during the Idul Fitri holidays, the local government says. Denpasar Sanitation Agency official Nyoman Astawa said that on normal days the city produces 2,200 to 2,500 cubic meters. During the holidays, Denpasar only produced 1,540 to 1,750 cubic meters. Astawa said that despite the decrease in garbage volume, the agency was still deploying the normal number of garbage disposal workers to clean the city. He said that all 120 vehicles and 1,398 personnel were deployed on the streets during the holidays. "With this decrease of garbage volume our personnel can breathe more freely because they can go home earlier," Astawa said as quoted by beritabali.com. The cleaning personnel pick up garbage in four shifts per day, while sweepers clean the streets every morning and afternoon.-- JP Post Date : 19 Oktober 2007 |
