Water and Poverty: The Themes

ADB "Water for All" policy recognizes the important role of public awareness and education to help achieve sustainable water resources management and better water services. In May 2002 ADB launched the water Awarenes Program to help create an environment supportive of effective water policies throughout Asia and the PAcific. One of the program tools to promote public awareness and understanding of water issues is the Water Voice docuentary series. The series consist of seven compelling films about people tackling water problems across Asia and the Pacific.


Water in Asian Cities

This is ADBs third publication of data on water utilities in Asia, which allows performance comparisons from 1990 through 2001 for 18 Asian cities (Chengdu, Colombo, Delhi, Dhaka, Ho Chi Minh City, Hongkong, Jakarta, Karachi, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Osaka, Phnom Penh, Seul, sanghai, Tashkent, Ulaabaatar, and Vientiane). Inside are core benchmarking indicators on service levels, service quality, operational effeciency, adn financial management, as well as information on water resources management, policy and regualtion, private sector participation, small-scale water providers, wastewater and sanitation, and urban flood management. The book also present civil society's views on its in impriving water services in cities.

Water and Poverty in the 3rd World Water Forum

Water and Poverty was the theme at the 3 rd World Water Forum for which ADB organized six sessions, as wel as the opening and closing plenary sessions. This report uotlines the broad range of issues discussed, including the need to mainstream water issues in poverty reduction policies. In addition, these sessions reflected the new thingking on pro-poor management that emphasizes the importance of partneships.
